This award is in honor of Janine M. Bernard, who has dedicated over 40 years to the field of counseling, including providing clinical supervision. Much like Dr. Bernard, this year’s Outstanding Supervisor Award recipient is someone who has also provided exemplary supervision to counselors-in-training. Through her supervisory role she continues to challenge and support counseling students as well as individuals and groups in schools, agencies, and private practice. She also facilitates several advanced clinical supervision trainings annual, embracing Dr. Bernard’s model of supervision.
It was noted in one letter, her “dedication and expertise as a faculty member and clinical supervisor is an integral and invaluable piece of the development of our Counselor Education program... earning a 1st time CACREP accreditation in January 2015.”
A common theme of dedication and compassion emerged from her letters of support, with a past student stating, she was “consistently available to myself and other students with warmth, compassion, and encouragement. She believed in us even when we struggled to believe in ourselves as we developed our counseling skills.”
And another stating: she “helped shape me in my professional life which directly impacts my personal life, without her countless hours of supervision and support I feel my career would be in a much different place”.
It is with great pleasure we present the Janine Bernard Outstanding Supervisor Award to Dr. Jeri Stevens from Husson University in Maine.
